CloudLinux Resource Limits – Business eCommerce Hosting Packages
LankaHost Business eCommerce Hosting packages are designed to provide reliable performance for online stores, shopping carts and business websites.
Our hosting platform uses CloudLinux technology to allocate dedicated resource limits to each hosting account. This helps maintain server stability and ensures that customers receive a fair allocation of processing power, memory and disk performance.
This article explains the resource limits for our Business eCommerce Hosting packages and how they may affect your website.
1. CloudLinux Resource Limits
The following table outlines the proposed resource allocations for our eCommerce Hosting packages.
| Resource | ECOM 5 GB | ECOM 10 GB | ECOM 15 GB | ECOM 20 GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CPU Power | 100% | 200% | 300% | 400% |
| Physical Memory (PMEM) | 1.0 GB | 2 GB | 3 GB | 4 GB |
| Disk IO | 4 MB/s | 6 MB/s | 8 MB/s | 10 MB/s |
| Entry Processes (EP) | 30 | 40 | 50 | 50 |
| Number of Processes (NPROC) | 100 | 150 | 180 | 220 |
All resource allocations apply per hosting account rather than per website.
2. Understanding Your Hosting Resources
CPU – Processing Power
CPU determines how much processing capacity is available to your hosting account.
For example:
-
100% CPU provides approximately one CPU core equivalent.
-
200% CPU provides approximately two CPU core equivalents.
-
300% CPU provides approximately three CPU core equivalents.
-
400% CPU provides approximately four CPU core equivalents.
More CPU capacity can help your website process demanding requests, including product searches, shopping-cart calculations and checkout transactions.
If your website reaches its CPU limit, requests may take longer to complete until resource usage decreases.
PMEM – Physical Memory
Physical Memory (PMEM) controls the total memory available to your hosting account.
Memory is used by PHP applications, web processes and background tasks.
eCommerce websites with multiple plugins, complex product catalogues or frequent background tasks may require more memory.
If your hosting account reaches its memory limit, some website operations may fail or display temporary errors.
IO – Disk Input/Output
Disk IO determines how quickly your hosting account can read and write data.
Higher disk throughput can improve performance during operations such as:
-
Uploading product images
-
Importing or exporting products
-
Generating website files
-
Processing scheduled tasks
-
Performing file-intensive operations
If the IO limit is reached, disk operations may temporarily slow down.
EP – Entry Processes
Entry Processes (EP) determine how many concurrent requests can enter your hosting account's processing environment.
For example, the ECOM 10 GB package supports up to 40 concurrent entry processes.
Please note: EP does not represent the total number of visitors your website can accommodate. Actual visitor capacity depends on website optimisation, caching, application performance and the duration of each request.
If the EP limit is reached, your website may temporarily display a 508 Resource Limit Is Reached error.
NPROC – Number of Processes
NPROC determines the maximum number of processes and threads running under your hosting account.
This can include PHP processes, scheduled tasks and other application processes.
Reaching the NPROC limit may temporarily prevent new processes from starting.
3. Choosing the Right eCommerce Hosting Package
ECOM 5 GB – Small Online Stores
Suitable for smaller eCommerce websites with modest resource requirements, limited product catalogues and moderate customer activity.
ECOM 10 GB – Growing Online Stores
Designed for growing online stores requiring additional CPU capacity and memory for plugins, checkout processing and increasing customer activity.
ECOM 15 GB – Established eCommerce Websites
Suitable for established online stores with larger product catalogues, more background processing and greater resource requirements.
ECOM 20 GB – Resource-Intensive Online Stores
Provides the highest resource allocation within our standard Business eCommerce Hosting range.
Suitable for larger online stores with more demanding application workloads, subject to shared hosting resource limits.
4. How to Check Your Resource Usage
You can monitor your hosting account's resource consumption directly from cPanel.
-
Log in to your cPanel account.
-
Navigate to Metrics → Resource Usage.
-
Select Current Usage to view your account's resource consumption.
-
Review CPU, memory, disk IO and process usage.
-
Check for resource-limit faults or unusual spikes.
Monitoring these statistics can help identify whether your website requires optimisation or additional hosting resources.
5. What Happens If My Website Exceeds Its Limits?
CloudLinux automatically manages resource usage to help maintain a stable hosting environment.
Depending on which resource limit is reached, you may experience:
-
Slower website response times
-
Temporary 508 Resource Limit Is Reached errors
-
Failed PHP scripts or background tasks
-
Temporary application errors
-
Delays during product imports or scheduled operations
Occasional resource spikes are normal, particularly during website updates, backups or periods of increased activity.
However, repeatedly reaching the resource limits may indicate that your website requires optimisation or a higher hosting package.
6. How Can I Reduce Resource Usage?
To help your eCommerce website perform efficiently, we recommend:
-
Keeping your eCommerce platform, themes and plugins updated.
-
Removing unused or unnecessary plugins.
-
Enabling compatible page caching and object caching.
-
Optimising product images and database queries.
-
Scheduling demanding background tasks during quieter periods.
-
Avoiding excessive or overlapping cron jobs.
-
Using appropriate protection against unwanted bot traffic.
-
Monitoring resource consumption regularly through cPanel.
For WooCommerce websites: Checkout, cart and account pages should be excluded from full-page caching where required to preserve correct shopping functionality.
7. When Should I Upgrade My Hosting Package?
You may benefit from upgrading if your website consistently reaches its CPU, memory or process limits during normal customer activity.
An upgrade may provide additional processing power, memory and disk throughput.
However, higher resource limits cannot resolve every performance problem. Poorly optimised plugins, inefficient database queries or excessive background processes may require investigation.
For websites with sustained high resource requirements, our support team may recommend VPS, Cloud or Dedicated Server hosting.
8. Need Assistance?
If your website is experiencing performance issues or resource-limit errors, our technical support team can help you understand your hosting account's resource usage and recommend suitable next steps.
